چکیده

Assigning and scheduling vehicle routes in a dynamic environment is a crucial management problem. Despite numerous publications dealing with efficient scheduling methods for vehicle routing, very few addressed the inherent stochastic and dynamic nature of travel times. In this paper, a vehicle routing problem with time-dependent travel times due to potential traffic congestion is considered. The approach developed introduces the traffic congestion component based on queueing theory. This is an innovative modelling scheme to capture the stochastic behavior of travel times as it generates an analytical expression for the expected travel times as well as for the variance of the travel times. Routing solutions that perform well in the face of the extra complications due to congestion are developed. These more realistic solutions have the potential to reduce real operating costs for a broad range of industries which daily face routing problems. A number of datasets are used to illustrate the appropriateness of the novel approach. Moreover it is shown that static (or time-independent) solutions are often infeasible within a congested traffic environment which is generally the case on European road networks. Finally, the effect of travel time variability (obtained via the queueing approach) is quantified for the different datasets. T. THE PERIODIC GREEN VEHICLE ROUTING PROBLEM WITH CONSIDERING OF TIME-DEPENDENT URBAN TRAFFIC AND TIME WINDOWS

The travel times among demand points are strongly influenced by traffic in a supply chain. Due to this fact, the service times for customers are variable. For this reason, service time is often changes over a time interval in a real environment. In this paper, a time-dependent periodic green vehicle routing problem (VRP) considering the time windows for serving the customers and multiple trip i...

A unified framework for vehicle routing problems with stochastic travel and service times

Vehicle routing problems (VRPs) are concerned with the design of efficient routes that deliver goods and services from (to) central depots to (from) customer locations, satisfying specific business constraints. In the last 50 years, a vast amount of research has been devoted to solve different VRP variants. Nonetheless, most of the solution methods for VRPs are based on the premise that problem...

A hybrid meta-heuristic algorithm for the vehicle routing problem with stochastic travel times considering the driver's satisfaction

A vehicle routing problem is a significant problem that has attracted great attention from researchers in recent years. The main objectives of the vehicle routing problem are to minimize the traveled distance, total traveling time, number of vehicles and cost function of transportation. Reducing these variables leads to decreasing the total cost and increasing the driver's satisfaction level. O...

The Special Application of Vehicle Routing Problem with Uncertainty Travel Times: Locomotive Routing Problem

This paper aims to study the locomotive routing problem (LRP) which is one of the most important problems in railroad scheduling in view of involving expensive assets and high cost of operating locomotives. This problem is assigning a fleet of locomotives to a network of trains to provide sufficient power to pull them from their origins to destinations by satisfying a rich set of operational con...

Solving a multi-depot location-routing problem with heterogeneous vehicles and fuzzy travel times by a meta-heuristic algorithm

A capacitated location-routing problem (CLRP) is one of the new areas of research in distribution management. It consists of two problems; locating of facilities and routing of the vehicle with a specific capacity. The purpose of the CLRP is to open a set of stores, allocate customers to established deposits, and then design vehicle tours in order to minimize the total cost. In this paper, a ne...
